Graves and Graceland

This morning started out like many, waking up in a parking lot, our sleeping bags slightly moist from the dew. We meandered our way out of Missouri, and, within one mile of the Arkansas border, we decided to stop for lunch. Since most of the rest stops in southern Missouri were closed, we had few options left. As we were eating our cans of chili and fruit, a gentleman who was a distributor for Herr chips asked us where we were from. We told him Portland, and it turned out he had also spent some time in the great Northwest. He departed, but not before giving us some complementary chips! Thank you good sir, the chips were delicious and we'll remember the name Herr. After venturing through Arkansas uneventfully, we came to Memphis, Tennessee. We wandered up and down Beale Street, listening to the bands playing and checking out the shops. We then visited Historic Elmwood Cemetery and Graceland on our way out of town and "saw Elvis' dead body or house or something," according to Ben.

Our reactions to Graceland

When we made a stop at a Wal Mart to relieve ourselves, a nice lady with real cool accent nicely told us that we were crazy and welcomed us to Tennessee. Now we are on our way to Lynchburg and Nashville, with Kentucky our next big state stop.
